An employee at a South Philadelphia Wendy’s restaurant is recovering after he was shot in the back while leaving work.

The 25-year-old man was leaving the Wendy’s on the 2000 block of North Broad Street at 1:32 a.m. Sunday. His girlfriend was in a vehicle outside to pick him up. As the victim walked to the car, an unidentified gunman walked up to him and opened fire.

The man was shot twice in the back while the gunman fled the scene. The victim’s girlfriend drove him to 11th and Lombard streets where they were met by police officers. The officers then took the victim to Jefferson University Hospital where he is in critical but stable condition.

No arrests have been made and a weapon has not been recovered. Police have not released a detailed description of the suspect. Witnesses said he was a teen boy wearing a hoodie who was last seen fleeing southbound from the scene.
