A Burlington County town received a huge honor Tuesday night.
Evesham Township was presented with one of the American flags that flew over the 9/11 memorial. A ceremony took place at 6:30 p.m. at the Evesham Township Municipal Building.
The flag is one of the 100 that flew over the 9/11 memorial. New York received half of those flags while New Jersey received the other half.
The Governor’s Office was on hand while Rich DeRose, a veteran of the conflict in the Middle East and employee of Governor Chris Christie’s staff, presented the town with the flag.
Evesham Township is home to the Homer family. Leroy Homer was the pilot of Flight 93 which was hijacked and crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania during the attacks on September 11, 2001. Homer as well as his six other crew members and 33 passengers all died during that fateful day. Homer’s wife and daughter still live in Evesham.
