South Jersey Mom Struck, Killed by Stray Bullet

Authorities say a southern New Jersey woman killed in a drive-by shooting was not the intended target.

But further details on the shooting in Bridgeton have not been disclosed by city police, including a possible motive or what type of weapon was used.

Quanny Bessix, 20, was outside her Cohansey Street home when the shooting occurred around 9:25 p.m. Monday. She died about four hours later at a hospital.

According to her mother, Bessix's last words were, "I'm hit! I'm hit! Tell my family I love them!"

Family members also say the young mother had finished her first day working at McDonald's only hours before her death.

Authorities say several rounds were fired in the shooting, but no other injuries were reported.

No arrests have been made. Bessix's family is begging anyone with information to come forward.
