3rd Man Charged in South Jersey Mom's Murder

Deanna Downs was found shot to death behind her apartment complex last fall

A third man was charged Thursday for his role in the shooting death of a South Jersey mother of two whose body was found behind her apartment complex last fall.

Deanna Downs’ body was found October 16 behind the Harbor City Apartments on Atlantic Avenue in Egg Harbor City.

The 29-year-old died from a gunshot wound to the face. At the time of her death Downs had 8- and 10-year-old sons.

Rafael Olmo, 27, of Egg Harbor City was charged Thursday with murder and conspiracy to commit murder for his alleged role of conspiring with 21-year-old Dontay Matthews of Elwood, N.J. and 28-year-old Mario Adams of Hammonton, N.J. to kill Downs over a debt, Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel said.

Olmo, was already in federal custody and will remain in custody facing an unrelated charge.

Adams was reportedly the triggerman and faces the most serious charges including murder. Matthews, like Olmo, is charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Both Adams and Matthews remain in county jail with bail set at $1 million for Adams and $300,000 for Matthews.
