An 11-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital after an apartment fire in Blackwood, New Jersey, killed her father and injured her mother, fire officials said.
Her mother was also taken to the hospital with second and third-degree burns.
The fire broke out sometime before 3 a.m. Sunday at Blackwood Falls Apartments in Camden County. It was mostly contained to the second-floor unit where the family lived.
A neighbor described the father as a hardworker who always looked out for his friends and family.
"He had just given my daughter a new Christmas tree for her new apartment," Kesha Welton said. "She took [his loss] really hard."
Officials do not know what caused the fire.
