Snow Wreaks Havoc for Drivers

A light snowfall Saturday coupled with the already accumulated snow from earlier storms are causing problems for travelers throughout the region.

Icy conditions caused several crashes involving at least five vehicles on the Route 1 Media Bypass, according to officials.

The accidents forced authorities to shut down southbound lanes of the roadway between Meetinghouse Lane and Route 476 for more than an hour.

Officials reduced speed on the New Jersey Turnpike to 45 mph in both directions between the Delaware Memorial Bridge and exit 8 to Route 33 due to poor road conditions.

Slippery roadways also caused several crashes in Ridley Township, Delaware County and in Lower Merion, Montgomery county, according to a PennDOT spokesman.

There are 225 PennDOT vehicles on the road working to remove the accidents and alleviate the poor road conditions.

The snow also caused the FAA to issue a ground delay of up to two hours and 11 minutes, according to authorities at the Philadelphia International Airport.
