North Wildwood Joins Wildwood in Banning Smoking on the Boardwalk

The smoking ban goes into effect immediately but won't be enforced until next year.

Following suit of neighboring Wildwood, North Wildwood banned smoking on its boardwalk.

The North Wildwood Council passed an ordinance Wednesday night that immediately bans smoking on its iconic stretch of boardwalk. The town plans to begin placing "No Smoking" signs on the boardwalk and will be starting an awareness campaign, said a spokesperson from the mayor's office.

The North Wildwood smoking ban, like one passed last month in Wildwood, won't be enforced until 2018 but the hope is to curb smoking now, officials said.

The smoking ban now covers the length of the nearly two-mile boardwalk that runs through Wildwood and into North Wildwood.

Ocean City banned smoking on its boardwalk three years ago.
