Small Earthquake Rocks NJ Town

Scientists report a small earthquake that likely was completely unnoticed was recorded just south of Jersey City.

The 1.3 magnitude quake occurred at a depth of about seven miles at 5:08 a.m. Tuesday.

U.S. Geological Survey geophysicist Susan Hoover tells The Jersey Journal there are no reports of residents feeling the quake and it would be uncommon for it to cause any damage.

Just before 2 p.m. on Aug. 23, 2011, a 5.9 magnitude earthquake centered in Virginia rattled parts of New Jersey and New York, causing buildings to sway in cities and towns across the region.
