Sleeping Family Wakes to Violent Home Invasion

Police say the mom and her two sons attempted to fight off the armed robbers.

A family of three are recovering after a violent home invasion early Thursday morning in North Philadelphia.

The victims, a mom, 49, and her two sons, 17 and 18, tell police that around 3:15 a.m., they were woken up by two intruders inside their home on the 2100 block of North 24th Street.

The elder teen was punched by one of the suspects, prompting him to fight back. The 17-year-old was pistol-whipped and forced at gunpoint to give the men $2800, according to police.

The 17-year-old victim believes he was targeted because he recently came into money from a lawsuit settlement.

Injuries to the family were minor.

Police are searching for the suspects. Anyone with information is urged to call 911.
