Shots Fired When Traffic Stop Turns to Chase

State police say troopers shot and wounded a suspect who led police on a chase - dragging a trooper with his pickup truck -  after a traffic stop in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Troopers have identified the still-hospitalized suspect as 32-year-old Oscar Stokes, of Uniontown.

Police say they tried to pull over Stokes about 12:10 a.m. Saturday, but he refused, drove away and spun out on an icy road in South Union Township. One trooper opened the driver's door and tried to pull Stokes from the truck as he drove away, dragging that trooper.

The trooper shot Stokes once in the side, as another trooper opened fire.

Both troopers have been placed on administrative duty pending a review by the Fayette County district attorney's office.

Stokes remained in stable condition at a Pittsburgh hospital.
