Shots Fired Near Memorial for Club Shooting Victim

Authorities say at least two people were shot and wounded while standing at a memorial set up near an illegal nightclub where a fatal shooting had occurred the day before.

Mercer County prosecutors say that shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday, several shots were fired into a group of about 20 people gathered at the site on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Trenton. But further details on the shooting and the wounded victims were not immediately available.

The gunfire came just hours after authorities had identified the man killed in the shooting early Saturday.

Prosecutors said 43-year-old Trenton resident Charles White was shot in the head. He later died at a hospital.

Three other people wounded in the shooting remained hospitalized Sunday, including a 30-year old Trenton man shot in the heart, lung and lower extremities. He was in critical condition, while two other victims -- a 23-year-old woman shot in the right shoulder and a 30-year-old man shot in the ankle -- remain in stable condition.

Besides the shooting victims, two city women trying to flee the building on Saturday suffered burns when grease spilled from a deep fryer.

Authorities have not yet determined motives for either shooting, and say no arrests have been made in either case.
