Driver Shot & Killed, Car Winds Up Teetering on Wall

After being fatally shot, a man crashed his car into parked cars and through a fence before coming to rest teetering on a wall.

The unidentified man died a short time after being shot while driving along the 2200 block of Cantrell Street in South Philadelphia Monday night.

Someone fired at least nine shots at the vehicle, striking the 30-year-old man driving it in the back and neck, police said.

The man continued driving after he was shot, and his vehicle soon struck some parked cars before crashing through a fence, investigators said. Officers had to break the driver side window to get him out of the crashed car.

The man was taken to a hospital but died there a short time later.

The shooter apparently fled the scene on foot and remained at large Tuesday. No other injuries were reported in the incident.

A motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
