Teen Arrested in Deadly Shooting Near New Jersey Playground: Mayor

A teenager has been arrested in a shooting that killed a man and wounded a woman near a children's park in northern New Jersey, authorities said.

Paterson Mayor Jose Torres said in a statement that the 17-year-old boy arrested in connection with the shooting has been charged with murder.

Passaic County prosecutors say that 43-year-old Dennis Gillespie of Warwick, New York, was shot inside a parked car and was killed.

The female victim, identified only as a 31-year-old Goshen, New York resident, was being treated for wounds that were not considered life-threatening.

The slaying is Paterson's seventh homicide of the year, including four this month. There have been 27 shootings in 2015 that resulted in five deaths and at least 29 people wounded.
