Camden Mother Shakes Son to Death: Prosecutors

Medical Examiner's report suggest child died from be blunt impact craniocerebral trauma.

A 24-year-old Camden, N.J. mother is accused of shaking her 19-month-old son to death last year.

Lydia Vasquez was arrested Thursday and charged with murdering her son Matthew Thompson, according to Camden County Prosecutors.

Vasquez brought her son to Cooper Hospital on March 30 saying that Matthew had fallen down a flight of stairs, officials said.

The 19-month-old was transferred to Children’s hospital of Philadelphia the next day but he would die on April 13.

The medical examiner’s report revealed that the child suffered brain and brain stem injuries consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome rather than a fall, officials said.

Vasquez will be arraigned Wednesday.
