Five Friends Dead in Turnpike Crash

Nine cars and a tractor trailer were part of a fatal accident on the New Jersey Turnpike near Mount Laurel, N.J., Saturday afternoon.

Five people who were friends in their 70's, were killed.  They were all in one car that burst into flames, according to police.

Three others were seriously injured, officials said.

The accident occurred near mile marker 35 on the turnpike in Burlington County. Witnesses said the scene was chaotic and frightening.

“As we were approaching the scene there was a man with a wrench; he managed to knock the window out of the car that was engulfed in flames to try to get the guy out but it was too late,” said one witness. “The flames were too fierce. It was too much.”
