Sentencing Delayed in Cocker Spaniel Dumping

Sentencing has been delayed in the case of a New Jersey couple who admitted dumping a 15-year-old cocker spaniel in a trash bag.

Keith and Shauna Morgan were to have been sentenced Monday, but the Asbury Park Press reports the proceeding has been pushed back to Nov. 18.

Keith Morgan pleaded guilty in August to animal cruelty and filing a false report. He had initially been hailed as a Good Samaritan after claiming he discovered the dog in a trash bag on the side of the road in Wall Township.

That was before authorities discovered the dog, named Sammy, was registered to someone in the couple's home. The dog has since recovered.

The couple could each face up to six months in jail.

Sammy spent about four weeks at a veterinary hospital recovering from injuries.

Shauna Morgan also pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.
