2nd Suspect Arrested in Veteran Attack

Vietnam veteran assaulted Tuesday in Olney

A second suspect has been arrested in the vicious beating of a 64-year-old Vietnam War veteran, sources tell NBC10.

Philadelphia police say a 15-year-old boy turned himself into police Saturday night and was charged with attempted murder, assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, and conspiracy. Police are not releasing the teen's name because he is a juvenile.

Ed Schaefer was assaulted and beaten Tuesday by at least two teenagers in the 5000 block of N. 5th Street in Olney. Schaefer, who lost his eye in a grenade attack in Vietnam, was left with serious injuries to his face, head, and hand, including a broken skull and orbital bone around the eye he had previously lost.

Police say the suspects fled south on 5th Street after the attack, making off with only a cell phone.

A 15-year-old was arrested Thursday night and charged with aggravated assault and robbery, as well as attempted murder.
