Search Suspended for Missing Fisherman

Edward Broderick was last heard from Saturday while his boat was en route to a clamming facility in Highlands, N.J.

The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing fisherman at the Jersey Shore.

Authorities say Edward Broderick was last heard from around 6 p.m. Saturday, when he told a friend that his vessel was en route to a clamming facility in Highlands.

The friend reported him missing about four hours later, and Broderick's submerged vessel was found and identified outside the marina where he originally intended to end his trip.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook spent most of Sunday and Monday searching for Broderick, along with the state marine police and a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City. The search was suspended at dusk Monday and may resume after daybreak Tuesday.

Broderick was last seen wearing gray or green sweatpants.
