School Buses Torched Near Coatesville

Fire causes $400,000 in damages

Seven school buses were set on fire at North Brandywine Middle School, just two miles north of Coatesville

Firefighters were called to the school in Chester County at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday. Investigators say the fires were deliberately set.

The buses could be seen smoldering as officials surveyed the damage Sunday. Some were drivable and others were destroyed. Damages from the fire total at least $400,000.

West Brandywine Township is just north of Coatesville, a town that investigators say has had 66 arsons since January 2008.

Two suspects have been arrested in at least 10 of those fires, but dozens remain unsolved.

Residents who once breathed a sigh of relief are now back on edge.

"Here we are, we're worried again," one resident told NBC10's Byron Scott Sunday.

The siutation is keeping other residents up at night.

"No I'm not sleeping easy at all. Every bump and thing in the night, I kinda jump out of bed and kind of look around," Lori Gilbert told NBC10's John Blunt Monday.

19-year-old Rodger Barlow was arrested and charged with setting nine of the Coatesville fires last Thursday. His friend Mark Gilliam was arrested hours later and charged with the attempted arson of a Thorndale restaurant.

"Obviously we have more than one fire setter by the number of arrests we've had and also by another fire here today," John Hageman of the ATF said.

A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case.
