Ex-Cop Pleads Guilty to Rapes

Former Kennett Square police officer was accused of raping young girls

A former Chester County police officer could spend up to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to raping young girls.

Jose Manuel Santiago, 56, a former Kennett Square cop, was sentenced to 12 ½ to 25 years behind bars, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Santiago pleaded guilty Monday to three counts of rape, three counts of deviate sexual intercourse and one count of indecent assault, according to court records.

Santiago was arrested almost two years ago after authorities say he had sexual encounters with three children -- one as young as 10 years old – between 1991 and 2000.

Santiago faced 170 different counts in a Chester County courtroom but struck a plea deal to avoid further penalties.

On top of his sentence, Santiago will also be added to the Megan’s Law list as a “sexually violent predator,” according to court documents.
