Barricade in South Philly After Woman Robbed Grocery Store: Police

Authorities called in a SWAT team after a woman, who allegedly robbed a grocery store, barricaded herself inside a South Philadelphia home late Wednesday night.

Police arrived at a home on the 1700 block of South 65th Street around 10:30 p.m. to serve an unidentified woman with an arrest warrant for the armed robbery of a southwest Philly grocery store, located near South 65th and Belmar streets, officials said.

But the suspect ran from the house as officers pulled up, police said.

Investigators tracked her to another nearby home, located on Saint Albans Street near 24th Street, where the woman barricaded herself inside, authorities said.

A SWAT team, along with a Philadelphia Tac Air helicopter, surrounded the home around 10:45 p.m. Approximately 20 minutes later, officers took the suspect, as well as a man who lives inside the Saint Albans Street home, into custody.

The woman, who allegedly stole $600 from the southwest Philly grocery store, is facing multiple charges.

Police are interviewing the man as part of the investigation.

No one was injured during the incident.
