SEPTA Won't Strike…For at Least 4 Months

Philadelphia transit officials say there won't be another rail strike for at least four months.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority says it will request federal intervention if it can't reach a deal with train engineers.

Engineers have been without a contract since 2010. Their one-day strike in June idled 13 lines that serve 60,000 commuters each weekday.

Employees ended their walkout after President Barack Obama appointed an emergency board to mediate the dispute over wages and other issues.

The board issued non-binding recommendations, but the two sides still have not reached agreement. Bargaining is set to resume Monday.

SEPTA says it will ask for a second board if there's no contract by Oct. 13, when the first board's term expires. That move would prevent a strike until Feb. 10.
