SEPTA Police Chief Stuns Man While Responding to Street Brawl

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority says its police chief stunned a man in Philadelphia while responding to reports of a large brawl.

SEPTA spokeswoman Carla Showell-Lee tells the Philadelphia Inquirer Chief Thomas Nestel III stunned a suspect Wednesday afternoon.

SEPTA says a melee broke out when residents tried to hold a drunken driver who had hit several parked cars and his passenger.

Showell-Lee says Nestel stunned the passenger when he lunged at another responding officer, who was trying to arrest the driver.

The passenger was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The driver was taken into custody.

SEPTA says the stunning was warranted.

City police say they didn't immediately have any information on the incident.
