South Jersey Dam Breach Prompts Evacuations

Officials say a dam breach has prompted the evacuation of about 75 people in Bridgeton in southern New Jersey.

The Cumberland County dispatch office says recent heavy rains apparently led to the breach sometime late Sunday afternoon on Seeley Lake.

Most of the water from the lake flowed into the Cohansey River and caused it to rise. Residents of some low-lying areas in Bridgeton voluntarily evacuated.

The dispatch office says there have been no reports of any injuries and no word yet if the waters have caused any damage to homes.

A shelter has been opened on Buckston Road for evacuees.
