Rutgers Students (En)lighten Community

A class of Rutgers-Camden students are working towards illuminating the crime-ridden city and they're calling it  the “lighting project.”

The students are spending their evenings counting broken streetlights in the worst part of Camden -- in a 12-block radius nearly a third of the lights were out, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“Our objective is to light up the city to deter crime” Angel Osorio, community justice director in the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, told the Inky.

Students are not only highlighting the darkness issue in the community, but are participating in a wide array of public service efforts from light counting to cleaning up graffiti and alleyways, reports the paper.
