Rutgers Students Arrested After Firefighters Find Drugs While Responding to Off-Campus House Fire

Six Rutgers students living in an off-campus house were arrested Sunday evening after firefighters responding to a fire in the basement found drugs and drug paraphernalia, police say.

New Brunswick firefighters were able to put out the fire at 166 Hamilton St. quickly, and no injuries were reported, authorities said. After noticing the drugs, firefighters alerted police, who responded to the home.

After an investigation, police arrested six students, ages 20 through 22, on charges of marijuana possession, cocaine possession, and possession of Adderall with intent to distribute.

The fire was determined to be accidental in nature.
