Rudy Loses Battle With Cancer

Some sad news about a popular police dog in Chester County.

Rudy, a 9 year-old German shepherd who worked with the county's drug task force has died.

Rudy lost his battle with cancer over the weekend.

When Rudy was first diagnosed with the disease, donations for treatment came pouring in from the community.

According to the Daily Local, Rudy was with his handler, police Cpl. Gary Williams, when he died.

Late last week, Rudy's health became progressively worse, Williams said. A tumor had grown drastically, causing internal bleeding and swelling. Rudy lost his appetite and had trouble standing without assistance.

A brief, private service was held yesterday at the West Brandywine police department.

Some good news to this story, Rudy was a father and two of his puppies will likely be trained to take his place.
