Romanian Woman Attacked at Knifepoint in Wildwood

Police say the suspect attempted to sexually assault the victim during a robbery.

A summer at the shore turned violent for a Romanian woman returning to her Wildwood rental after work early Tuesday morning, according to Wildwood Police.

Police said that just before 3:30 a.m., the victim, a 22-year-old college student from Romania, was getting off the bus near her home when she was followed to her door and forced into her apartment by a man identified as 29-year-old Pedro Couvertier-Fernandez.

Couvertier-Fernandez demanded money before violently attempting to sexually the assault the woman, police said.

The victim was able to free herself from the suspect and lock herself in a bedroom at which point Couvertier-Fernandez fled the apartment, according to investigators.

The woman did suffer cuts and defensive wounds from fighting off her attacker.

Pedro Couvertier-Fernandez was arrested Tuesday night and is facing multiple charges including armed robbery and attempted sexual assault.

The suspect is being held at the Cape May County Correctional Center after failing to post his $150,000 bail.
