A gunshot victim collapsed inside a Northeast Philadelphia Wawa after fleeing from a robbery, Philadelphia Police said.
The man ran into the convenience store at Tyson and Castor avenues after the violent robbery nearby around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, police said. People in the store then called 911.
The 25-year-old man was bleeding from his head and shoulder when he entered the store and fell to the ground. He was conscious when officers arrived a short time later, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
The man told investigators he was walking from his girlfriend’s home a few blocks away at Magee and Castor avenues when a man with facial tattoos and wearing a dark gray sweat suit pistol-whipped him while demanding money and a cellphone. The man handed over his iPhone then started to run away, police said.
"While he was running away that’s when the shots were fired," Small said.
The man was struck in the right shoulder, police said. He also suffered a laceration to his head from being hit with the gun.
Investigators hoped surveillance video would help them as they searched for clues. Anyone with information is urged to contact Philadelphia Police.
