Rice & Beans Leads to Fatal Stabbing

Police say an argument over rice and beans led to a fight between eastern Pennsylvania roommates that ended in a stabbing death.

The (Easton) Express-Times says 46-year-old Hector Luis Gonzalez of Allentown was ordered to stand trial in the Sept. 28 stabbing death of 36-year-old Ahiezer Padilla-Marrero after a Lehigh County hearing Wednesday.

Allentown detective Raymond Ferraro testified that Gonzalez said he had been at a family party with his two young children and wanted to feed them some rice and beans he had cooked earlier, but Padilla-Marrero had eaten it, so an argument began.

Officer Craig Berger said police found the victim outside and followed a blood trail to a bedroom and saw Gonzalez "covered in blood spatter." His attorney didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.
