Retrial Begins for Strip Club Manager Accused of Beating Intoxicated Patron to Death

A retrial is underway for a Philadelphia strip club manager accused of beating an intoxicated patron to death.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports John Pettit's retrial began on Wednesday.

Surveillance video shows Pettit punched John Koons in the head in October 2009 at Oasis Gentlemen's Club. Koons fell off his stool. He and another man were dragged out of the club by Pettit and other bouncers. Koons died several weeks later.

Pettit's 2012 trial ended in a mistrial after the jury couldn't reach a verdict on murder, manslaughter, or conspiracy charges. The Pennsauken, New Jersey man was convicted of evidence tampering.

Defense attorney A. Charles Peruto Jr. says Pettit didn't know his punch killed Koons and says his client should be acquitted of third-degree murder or convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
