Authorities said an anonymous call reporting that a man had taken hostages and stabbed a woman turned out to be a hoax.
NJ.com reported that police received a call just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday from a man who told them he would shoot police and the hostages. The fake calls, known as swatting, typically draw a heavily-armed police response.
The response was caught on YouTube by a man streaming a video in his home.
The Keyport swatting incident came after several other hoax calls in the Garden State, including a shooting prank that targeted South Jersey lawmaker Paul Moriarty last week. Earlier this month, police responded to a false report that a hostage was being held in Upper Freehold Township.
Keyport Police Chief George Casaletto said they're investigating the incident, but it doesn't appear to be related to the other recent fake calls.
