Report: Overtime Rampant at Port Authority of New York & New Jersey

More than 130 Port Authority of New York and New Jersey employees have already more than doubled their base salaries by working so much overtime in the first nine months of the year.

The Record reports that of the 131 employees who have doubled their salaries this year, 13 police officers will make more than Executive Director Pat Foye's $289,000 annual salary.

The newspaper's analysis also finds that one officer averaged 100 hours of work a week, including 60 on overtime.

Port Authority officials say 444 new police recruits have curbed overtime costs since October.

Excessive overtime has been a perennial issue for the agency that controls the bridges connecting the two states and the region's major airports.

Legislation that would overhaul operations has been passed by both state Legislatures, but neither governor has signed off.
