The public gets a chance tonight to hear about a project that should improve the flow of traffic at the interchange of Interstate 295, Route 42 and I-76 in South Jersey.
The project affects Bellmawr, Mount Ephraim and Gloucester City.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation will host a public information session on the Direct Connect project tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. The meeting will give residents construction information and timelines. It will be held in the Bellmawr Ballroom in Bellmawr Borough at 29 Lewis Avenue.
The New Jersey DOT says in a press release that the project will be a monumental change for the highway interchange, creating a substantial upgrade to the current configuration.
“This is a major multi-year project that will have a substantial impact on Camden County motorists and several municipalities,” said Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison for the Camden County Department of Public Works.
“It is important for County residents to be aware of how this construction will affect their commute and their communities.”
The proposed improvements will help to enhance safety and reduce traffic congestion at the interchange of I-296, I-76 and Route 42 while providing a direct connection for I-295 traffic that will bypass the Route 42 and I-76 traffic.
NJDOT representatives will be at the meeting to answer questions and to explain the project.
Maps and plans will be available.
Construction on the project is expected to last from March 2013 to fall 2015.
