A man already serving a state prison term in threats against a northwestern Pennsylvania judge has been ordered to spend an additional seven years behind bars on a conviction of having sent a letter threatening to kill two federal court judges.
The Erie Times-News reports 49-year-old Gregory Garrett Brown must also serve three years on supervised release following the term and pay a $100 fine.
Senior U.S. District Judge Maurice B. Cohill Jr. recommended that Brown be imprisoned in the Federal Correctional Institution at Butner in North Carolina and that he be enrolled in the mental health program.
Court documents indicate that Brown pleaded guilty in May to one count of mailing threatening communications in November 2010.
In court filings, Brown has said he is mentally ill and sought release on house arrest.
