PECO Gets Help

Michigan power company helping PECO restore power to more than 14K

PECO asked for help to repair the damage caused by this week's blizzard from other power companies around the nation and late last night, assistance arrived from Battle Creek Michigan's Midwest Power Company.

Crews from both companies will begin working at 7 a.m. to restore power to the more than 14,000 homes still in the dark and cold.

At the height of the storm more than 250,000 homes went dark in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware as the storm's heavy snow and gusting winds snapped power lines.

PECO customers were hardest hit, but as of Thursday night, the company was able to restore power to 200,000 of their customers.

Joe Wilson is one of those customers. His entire block along Parkview Avenue in Langhorne, Bucks County went dark after several trees toppled during the storm.

His house has been so cold that he decided to head outside and shovel the snow to warm up.

"Last night wasn't too bad, it was about 68 degrees when we went to bed," he said. "But it was 55 degrees when we woke up and it pretty much stayed like that all day long."

By late Wednesday night, Wilson's neighbors across the street had electricity, but his family's home was still dark.

Down the shore, more than 10,000 homes are still without power -- some of which have been in the dark since last week's storm.

Officials for the power companies say they're working as quickly as possible, but say it will take days to get everyone back online.
