The state is just coming off one of the wettest years on record, but professional weather-watchers are increasingly concerned about a potential drought in central and eastern Pennsylvania.
Officials said Tuesday the Drought Task Force, which represents various state and federal agencies, will meet next week to discuss the effects of a winter with little snowfall and a drier-than-usual spring.
Flow rates on the Delaware and Susquehanna rivers are at record lows for this time of year.
Hydrologist Charles Ross at the National Weather Service station in State College, says the Susquehanna is at its slowest rate since 1910. A Delaware River Basin Commission spokesman says the Delaware has been setting low records for a week.
Ross says average rainfall may be all that's needed to return to normal.
