Police Unsure if Robbery Suspect Escaped or Drowned

Police say they've arrested one suspect in the burglary of a western Pennsylvania jewelry and precious metals store, but are unsure whether the other drowned or somehow escaped after diving into a river.

Police in New Castle didn't immediately respond to calls Tuesday to update the investigation first reported by WPXI-TV.

The Pittsburgh television station says police were chasing two suspects about 3:30 a.m. after a break-in at Greek's House of Gold in New Castle. That's about 45 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

Police say one of the men wound up in the Shenango River, but police couldn't find him.

They were planning to resume their search later Tuesday, but it wasn't immediately clear if the second suspect had been found.

Police have yet to release the first suspect's name.
