Authorities say a Newark man who was found shot and wounded in the vestibule of a city apartment building has died from his injuries.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray says police found 18-year-old Gary Anderson shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, when they responded to a report of shots fired in the 900 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue.
Murray said it appeared that Anderson had been shot several times. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 2:30 a.m.
Further details on the shooting, including what type of weapon was used and how many shots were fired, were not disclosed. Authorities also did not say whether Anderson lived in the apartment building where he was found.
A possible motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
