“Missing” Elderly Man Found Inside Nursing Home

Burlington Township Police found an elderly man who was reported missing on Saturday.

Police responded to the Marcella Nursing and Rehabilitation Center located at 2305 Rancocas Road on Saturday. Officials informed police that Lawrence Mulligan, 85, a patient at the nursing home diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, went missing shortly after 4 p.m.

After police, staff and Mulligan's family searched the facility several times, investigators believed he had walked away. They then searched neighboring housing developments and surrounding wooded areas. Several fire departments and other agencies joined in on the search but Mulligan was not found. The search was suspended Sunday at 3 a.m.

The search was then re-initiated at 5:45 a.m. With the help of K9s and other agencies, Mulligan was finally found unharmed at 9:41 a.m. It turns out the man had been inside the nursing home the entire time. A staff member found him lying between two rafters in an attic area on the second floor of the building.
