Search for Attempted Murder Suspect Prompts Neighborhood Lockdown

Suspect remains on the loose after more than six hour search

A manhunt for an attempted murder suspect prompted Delaware State Police to place a neighborhood on lockdown.

But after hours of searching, the suspect was not found and remains on the run.

Marquel May ran from authorities after members of the Cecil County, Md. Drug Task Force stopped his vehicle along Old Baltimore Pike near South College Avenue in Newark, Del. at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, state police said.

The 20-year-old has an outstanding attempted murder warrant, but a police spokesman didn't immediately have the details about the case. May is considered armed and dangerous.

State police say May fled into a wooded area and a number of law enforcement agencies spent more than six hours searching for the man. Police helicopters and K-9 units were also used to try and locate May.

Later in the evening, authorities narrowed their search area to a section of South College Avenue near Welsh Tract Road.

The area is about two miles from the campus of the University of Delaware.

However, after hours of combing the woods, police called off the search.

State police say a police presence will remain in the neighborhood and they are asking residents to report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
