Police: Man Beat Sleeping Girlfriend With Bat

A Pennsylvania man was charged with using a baseball bat to beat his girlfriend while she slept.

State police say Calvin B. Lynch, 31, choked her until she lost consciousness and trapped her in a bedroom for hours by threatening to abuse her again if she tried to escape from their home in Gordonville, a tiny village with a strong Amish presence in the Lancaster area.

"She wasn't physicaly restrained but emotionally...she was scared to leave," Trooper Laureto said in an Intelligencer Journal report. "She feared for her life if she didn't do what he said."

The woman, 29, was hit over and over again in the head and arm Saturday morning, said Laureto. She was treated for a broken elbow and numerous cuts. The victim said Lynch smoked crack cocaine during the assault, according to police. When he finally left, she ran to a neighbor's house to call for help.

Lynch was arrested the next day at a relative's home. He's charged with assault and unlawful restraint.
