Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting

Delaware State Police say a 58-year-old man is in critical condition after an officer shot him in Milford.

Police say Roy Rhodes of Milford was driving a Lincoln Town Car on Saturday afternoon on Milford Harrington Highway and almost caused a crash with another car. The other car avoided a collision, and Rhodes crashed through some bushes and stopped in a driveway.

Police say the other driver got out to check on Rhodes, who was holding a knife to his own throat. The driver took the knife from Rhodes, and Rhodes then pulled out a handgun. That's when a Milford police officer arrived.

Investigators say the officer ordered Rhodes to put down the gun, but he refused. The officer shot Rhodes three times.

Charges are pending in the case.
