Police ID Man Who Died in Fire

The badly burned body of a man discovered in a house fire last year in Washington Township has been identified.

Police identified the body of a man found after a house fire in Washington Township last year.

Back on October 28, 2011, a fire occurred at a vacant home on the 100 block of Berlin-Cross-Keys Road. The blaze was reported shortly before 9:30 p.m. and brought under control about half an hour later, though not before the trash-filled house suffered heavy damage. Police say the home was known to be frequented by squatters.

The badly burned body of an unidentified male was discovered at the house later that night. On Monday, police identified the man as 48-year-old Robert Cyr of Williamstown, New Jersey. Cyr’s family was notified last week so funeral arrangements could be made.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined. Police suspect however that unattended candles ignited the blaze.
