Concerns about a suspicious package at a Montgomery County transit hub Sunday were alleviated after police deemed it not to be a threat.
Officials said they evacuated people from both the Norristown Transportation Center near Swede and Lafayette streets and a nearby Greyhound Bus station about 1:30 p.m. They said a package left unattended needed to be investigated, leading them to move people out for safety as police cleared the area.
A SEPTA spokeswoman said that Norristown High Speed Line and Manayunk/Norristown Regional Rail service to the transportation center was suspended until further notice, and that Manayunk/Norristown Train 6221 headed to Center City would begin at Conshohocken Station. SEPTA buses that use the transportation center were boarding on Lafayette Street.
Police determined the package was not a threat and reopened the area around 3:30 p.m.
