It began Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. at a house on Mystic Lane in Middletown Township. Police say Keith Kilpatrick, 23, of Norwood, was stealing property from inside the garage of a home when he was confronted by one of the homeowners.

Investigators say the homeowner chased after Kilpatrick as he ran down the driveway and entered a silver vehicle where Brittany Kerr, 22, of Folcroft was in the passenger seat. The suspects then drove off and the victim called police and gave a description of the vehicle, according to investigators.

Police say troopers on patrol later observed the suspects’ vehicle at Route 1 and Granite Drive and tried to stop it. The car then drove on Route 1 onto Route 352 southbound at a high speed, according to investigators. Police say the car continued to drive recklessly until it crashed into two other vehicles at the intersection of Route 352 and Knowlton Road.

Kilpatrick fled the crash scene on foot and was captured by police after a short pursuit. Police say Kerr had to be extricated from the car by a fireman and suffered serious injuries. Police also say occupants of the two vehicles that were struck suffered minor injuries.

Both Kilpatrick and Kerr are charged with burglary and other related offenses. Kilpatrick will have additional charges related to the pursuit and accident. Police continue to investigate.
