Four Philadelphia police officers responding to a road rage shooting were hurt in a wreck in the city's Kensington neighborhood Friday morning. The wreck left one police SUV wedged between a utility pole and a row home.
The police vehicle wreck happened at D Street and East Indiana Avenue around 10:15 a.m. The officers didn't suffer serious injuries, police investigators said.
Neighbors and witnesses said it sounded like a grenade went off.
A utility pole split and wound up on top of the police SUV that crashed into the home, leaving a hole in the facade. The other police SUV had visible front-end damage. The airbags deployed in both vehicles.
The officers were headed to the area of Kensington and Allegheny avenues when they crashed. The driver of a red Honda Civic allegedly fired a shot at another driver after an argument, Philadelphia police said.
SEPTA police officers heard the gunshot and immediately pursued the road rage suspect who crashed a several blocks away at Rosehill Street and Alleghney Avenue, police said.
SEPTA police arrested the 20-year-old road rage suspect but didn't find a gun, Philadelphia police said. No word yet on what charges he could face.
