Police Arrest Philly Cop for Lying About Assault

Philadelphia Police arrested a fellow officer on Wednesday for allegedly making false statements to affect the arrest of another person.

On March 4 of 2010, 54-year-old police officer Aleksande Shwarz made an arrest for simple assault on the 7700 block of Roosevelt Boulevard.

Shwarz claimed that he was assaulted during the incident. An investigation by the Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Officer revealed that Shwarz falsified the report however.

Shwarz is a 21-year-veteran who was assigned to the 2nd District. Commissioner Charles Ramsey has suspended Shwarz for 30 days with the intent to dismiss.

Shwarz is charged with simple assault, unsworn falsification to authorities and abuse of office.
