Police: 3 Killed, 2 Hurt in NJ Highway Crash

Three men were killed and two others were injured when the car they were in crashed on a northern New Jersey highway.

Authorities tell The Record that it's not yet known what caused the crash, which occurred around 3:50 a.m. Saturday on Route 3 East in North Bergen. The accident occurred just before the approach to Route 495, which leads to the Lincoln Tunnel.

Authorities said the men in the car ranged in age from 19 to 31, and it was not immediately known if any of them were related. All four passengers were ejected from the car after it hit a concrete pillar and rolled over several times.

The Star-Ledger reported that Joshua Nayorga, a 23-year-old Union City resident who was in the front-passenger seat, was killed in the crash along with the vehicle's driver and a backseat passenger. The names of the latter two men were not immediately released, as authorities worked to notify their relatives.

Two other backseat passengers remained hospitalized late Saturday afternoon.

Eighteen-year-old Roman Rosario of Jersey City was listed in critical condition, while Michael Martinez, a 23-year-old Weehawken resident, was in stable condition. Rosario was sitting in the middle of the backseat, while Martinez was sitting behind the driver.

On Sunday, police announced that Martinez was released from the hospital. Rosario remains in the hospital but is expected to recover.

Further details on their injuries were not disclosed.

A stretch of the highway was closed for several hours due to the crash.
