Philadelphia area residents are spending about $200 less a month on gas this week than they would have during the middle of summer.
As gas prices fall to levels not seen since early 2005, families are saving money on gas during these otherwise tough economic times.
The average family in the Philadelphia area now has $201 more in their pocket than they did back in June.
Calculations approximate that the average family drives 23,100 miles each year (sometimes using two vehicles) and the average vehicle gets approximately 20 miles per gallon.
“As thousands of Philadelphia area residents gas up the car to travel to their Thanksgiving destinations, low gas prices make it easier,” noted Catherine L. Rossi, Manager of Public and Government Affairs, AAA Mid-Atlantic.
“Lower gas prices will help families as we enter into the holiday shopping season. AAA projects gas prices may drop even further in the weeks ahead.”
Right now the price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in the Philadelphia area is $2.05. Although that's great news, we're paying more than the average driver around the nation. The national average for a gallon of unleaded gas is $1.87.
The most drivers in our area have paid for a gallon of regular unleaded gas was $4.07 on June 15, 2008, according to AAA.
